Our Busy Day.....

Today was our first real test of trying to get the three of us ready and out the door at a scheduled time. We had our baby care class scheduled for this morning with Elizabeth (Luke's nurse at FANA). For those of you who are not familiar, FANA offers this class to new parents to review the basics of your new babies care. Since we're far from being experts after two days with Luke, we were looking forward to this. So we made it out the door to head to FANA and we were only five minutes behind schedule, which for those of you who know me, five minutes is great. We arrived there only to find out that there was no hot water, so our baby care class would have to be postponed (bathing/dressing are some of the things they go over). But we did

get to meet with Elizabeth to go over some things we had questions on. She is so helpful and kind. Since our class was not going to happen she suggested we take Luke to the Pediatric orthopedic office to get fitted for his brace. For those of you who may not know, Luke has a very slight asymmetry of the plates of his left hip. FANA was great about letting us know about this early on and they have done everything to ensure his well beingThe doctor feels that the asymmetry is so slight that he does not even classify it as a dysplasia of the hip( which is when the hip joint/ball and socket is not aligned normally/abnormal development or growth of the ball/socket ). So the doctor feels Luke should be braced for a few weeks just as a precaution and to ensure things will continue to develop well. So anyway back in the cab and we headed to the orthopedic office. They were really nice and Luke was great. Our inability to speak Spanish made our visit a bit tough but we managed. So then it was back in the cab again to head back to FANA for their anniversary celebration. For those of you who have never traveled in a Colombian cab, it's quite an experience. There are cars everywhere swerving in and out and there you are holding your child on your lap since car seats are not required here. Luke is so good though and not too much phases him. He actually slept through 3 of our four cab rides today and the only reason he stayed awake during the fourth was because he was getting his bottle (mom, I know this isn't the conventional means of feeding a baby, but it worked!). So we headed back to FANA to share in this wonderful celebration of their anniversary. It started with a mass. It was really special-Luke's first mass. And he was so good-he blew raspberries and babbled here and there but nobody seemed to mind. He was even called up with the other children/babies being adopted for a special blessing by the priest. So that was great. We then witnessed two more babies being presented to their new parents (I think one of the families was Colombian and one from Spain).A beautiful thing to see families being created right before you eyes. While at the celebration we got a chance to meet up with some other families from New York who are here adopting older children. We then headed back to our hotel and enjoyed more quality time with our amazing new son. So all in all it was a great and busy day. The main thing is Luke continues to do so well. I know I've probably said it a hundred times, but we have been blessed with such a wonderful baby. We just fit together so well. Well I better get some sleep. Thanks again for all the comments. It is so great to hear from everyone and helps us feel a sense of home.
