We got Luke's brace this morning. Our driver, Maria Teresa, was kind enough to take us and translate for us. The doctors at the pediatric orthopedic clinic are really kind but don't speak any English (and our Spanish is not good). Luke tolerated the brace pretty well through the morning and early afternoon. We fed him his lunch in the courtyard so we could all get some fresh air and enjoy the beautiful day (sorry to hear about the snow back home). By nap time he was hating the brace. He is usually so active in his crib and rolls around to put himself back to sleep. The brace doesn't allow him to do that. He actually has to stay on his back in one position. So needless to say, it is going to take some getting used to. He was doing so well with his playtime and rolling/crawling before the brace so we just have to make sure he adapts and continues with his development. From all the research Kenny and I did on this brace prior to coming to Colombia, it seems as if it's harder for the parents than the children. It's tough seeing him so restricted, but he's a great baby and we know he'll adjust-he has to. We may not sleep for a few nights, but whatever is best for him is what we will do. Despite his lack of afternoon naps, we decided to join the other New York families for dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe. We knew if he wasn't tolerating things well, we could always jump in a cab back to the hotel. Surprisingly, we had a great night out. He really lights up being around the other children. And they are such sweet and loving kids who have the whole world now at their fingertips. I was talking with one of the workers at the Hard Rock and she was asking what we were all doing in Bogota, if it was for adoption. She commented what a beautiful thing was happening with all of our families and what wonderful opportunities now await these children, opportunities that may not have existed for them here in Colombia. It was really nice to hear what this young Colombian woman thought of our newly created families. These children are blessed and we are equally as blessed to call them our own.

Jess, sorry to hear that Luke is not having an easy time wearing his brace at night! I will keep you all in my prayers! Also I love all the pictures you have been posting,,esp. the one of Jess and Luke with all of the children surrounding them ! Love it!!!!
