We had our first sleepless night last night. My sister and brother in law (parents of a seven year old, six year old, and nine month old) have been waiting for us to experience a night of very little sleep. Luke hates his brace when trying to sleep. But I guess if you think about it, trying to sleep in one position all night isn't very easy. He had a restless morning. I think he was just so tired. We decided to get out for a little bit since he usually loves going out. We were told by our buddy couples and many of the families that have come before us to get out and do something everyday. We're coming to realize this is great advice. Luke did much better being out for the afternoon. We walked down to the Bogota Beer Company for lunch. Luke slept through much of it, which was great (he needed it). Kenny and I enjoyed some good microbrews and great nachos and empanadas (picture above). We then headed to Baby Ganga (similiar to a small Babies R Us) for the hundredth time. We stopped at the grocery store for a few things on the way back. It's funny, we always seem to leave the grocery store with wine and wipes or beer and baby food. Luke was pleasant when we got back and tolerated a quick therapy/play session before bed. We're trying our best to help him find ways to keep moving and developing despite the brace. He actually did really well and had fun as the pictures above show. If any of my pediatric PT/OT friends out there have any suggestions for us please share them (any good positions for sleeping?) Well I'm heading to bed a bit early because I have a feeling he'll be up again shortly. And by the way we found out today our court number is 13. I don't know if that's good or bad. I guess the number really doesn't make a difference to us. We're just going to enjoy and make the most of our time here in Bogota regardless.

my only question is who is getting the wine and who are the baby wipes for???
ReplyDeleteWho is drinking the beer and who is eating the baby food?
Put the brace on Kenny let him drink the wine and the beer- everyone would sleep better!!!

I'm really enjoying reading your blog. We were there last year at the same exact time you have been.
ReplyDeleteYou guys have the right attitude regarding the court number. Just relax and enjoy Colombia. If you're like us, you will miss being there everyday once you return home.

Way to go Luke!! Wake up your parents - the original Todd and Margo! I have been waiting for you guys to experience at least one sleepless night (although I wish it wasn't because of Luke's discomfort). Hopefully it's one and done!
ReplyDeleteHe looks so cute - I can't wait to give him a big hug. I love the pic of him on the bed with his hand holding up his head.
If you aren't to busy this weekend we can try to Skype.
I absolutely love how happy the three of you look - I definitely look forward to your pictures and updates everyday because they always make me smile :) I hope Luke gets used to the brace soon, I hate to hear he's uncomfortable (and I'm sure it's hard on you two having to see him like that) but your positive attitudes are all you need!
ReplyDeleteHi Jess and Ken! I'm really enjoying the blog and reading all about your exciting adventure! I can't wait to meet Luke and check his eyes ;) they look great from the pictures! He is so beautiful!! (in a boy way of course...) I have your new family in my prayers and I am so happy for you!!
ReplyDeleteLove you all,
Meredith ("meme" of meme and peepers...we will have to give little luke a silly nickname that he can eventually grow out of...)
